39 how to diagram prepositional phrases
I have been working on this one particular sentence for two days now. We were supposed to diagram it after identifying if it had any prepositional phrases, participial phrases, adjectival infinitives, and/or adjectival clauses. The sentence is the following: **The good you do isn't always good for you.** I recognize *for you* is a prep phrase, however I am having a hard time diagramming the phrases *good for you* and *the good you do.* I am confused because they seem to have a verb (do) and I ... Here's the example. Santa Claus has a workshop and needs to track the toys being made by each elf in a database. So his developer draws a diagram to be sure he understands. `(ELF)-[MAKER_OF]->(TOY)` and an arrow the other way... `(ELF)<-[PRODUCT_OF]-(TOY)` The arrow matches the English reading order, SVO (subject-verb→object) Seems simple enough. When the code is written based upon the diagram, we get an object for representing the relationship (bad) class ElfMakesToy ...

The Tamarian language came through the Universal Translator. We know nothing of the phonology or actual words in the language itself, outside of a few names. It's going to be a lot of fun and I'm looking for people to hang out with. It's the weekend of the 9th and I'll be free in the evenings. So, whether you're going to the conference, or just live in the Cities, we can do something fun. So, want to know some about me? How to diagram prepositional phrases. My first post here: I'm glad to see this community exists. Here is the sentence I'm trying to diagram. It's an abbreviated sentence created from a clause of a much longer sentence (Ephesians 4:11-16) "And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; for the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ." There's one verb with four different direct objects, each having their own indirect obje... Hello! English isn't my 1st language, so i may be missing something very obvious. The 1st sentence is "Last summer i read some challenging authors, ***such as*** Dante, Faulkner, and Joyce." Are these 2 words ("such as") a preposition of a compound objective "Dane, Faulkner, and Joyce."?And the 2nd one is almost the same - "Last summer i read some challenging authors; ***for example***, Dante, Faulkner, and Joyce". How to diagram "for example"? it's a prepositional phrase, but where to put "Dant... Hello! I have to diagram sentences and I am having trouble with the placement of some prepositional phrases. In the sentence: "He departed to the mountains to hike," I know "he departed" is technically a full sentence, so how do the two prep. phrases fit in? I would love some help with this! Thanks!
I'm working through a sentence diagramming book, and the following sentence was listed as an exercise: Why did he hope to find an honest man among those twisted cynics? When deciding how to diagram the prepositional phrase "among those twisted cynics," I thought it was modifying "man," the direct object of "to find." However, the correct answer has it modifying "to find" instead. Could someone explain to me why this is the case and possibly give me a way to test what a modifier after an infini... I've broken it down into titled sections, which, one by one, build the phono-morphology up from first principles. I'm having trouble figuring out how to diagram the prepositional phrase "in which he is chosen". I'm fairly certain that "which" is the object of the preposition "in," but how would the embedded sentence "he is chosen" be diagrammed? or is "which" in this instance closer to a particle such as "there," and gets diagrammed on that little dotted t-shaped line above the verb? thanks in advance! Yesterday a question was asked about the use of the instrumental case in a sentence. Although I did answer it pretty thoroughly, I made some mistakes that I'd like to clarify. For that, I consulted a fellow Polish teacher, who helped me understand some concepts I was doubtful of. Here's what I learned: Most of you probably know the basics of English syntactics. Good news is, it's not much different from Polish syntactics. In both, there are five parts of a sentence: * **Subject** (pl. *podmiot...
Hey guys, I'm teaching my ESL students to diagram sentences and I came across a structure that doesn't make sense to me. If you have a compound predicate that includes an adverb or prepositional phrase that applies to both verbs, it seems that you just diagram them as coming off the bottom verb. For example, they diagrammed a sentence that said "(They) eat or exercise after school. The answer key shows the pp "after school" stemming off of exercise. But how do you differentiate between adverbs... I don't have strong opinions on the of owning firearms, I occasionally shoot target on my parents land and want to learn to hunt in the near future, but the second amendment doesn't explicitly state that an individual has the right to bear arms. "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." EDIT: THIS HAS RECEIVED SOME IMPASSIONED RESPONSES, SO I THOUGHT I WOULD THOROUGHLY GIVE YOU MY THOU... #Happy Tuesday! Hello! I'm Static.
