Okay, this lesson is probably a bit different than most, I'm going to focus on something I don't really even know what to call but it's a very simple concept. This is also my first ever lesson btw so it may be a bit unorganized, but let's give it a shot anyways. I should add ahead of time, the chord names under the diagrams are formatted to look good on desktop browsers, and may be a tad askew on mobile devices, but they go in order with the diagrams, left to right. One of the first things I fi...

A close friend of mine, Austin, likes to boast about the fact that he can turn anything into a working and playable guitar. He’s amassed a number of followers on Facebook and Instagram showing off his work and you can’t help but marvel at his creations. He’s made fully working electric guitars out of a toaster, a shovel, an alloy from a tire, even a set of freaking bricks. Well, the last video he posted was over 7 months ago. I haven’t seen him in 2 weeks and the last time I did he looked simp...
The 12-string guitar is oftentimes a more finicky beast than its six-string cousin. With a dozen strings to manage, it can overwhelm even the most proficient player (strings can go out of tune and even break). Properly stringing up the 12-string guitar can help prevent future performance problems.
Connected to each tuning peg is the tuning machine - the mechanism that turns the tuning posts and winds the string, making it tighter (tune up) or looser (tune down). Each tuning post has a hole to thread the string through. The headstock can also be where you access the truss rod, which runs inside the length of the neck.I won't go into that too much now because it's a more advanced setup ...
Congrats on your 660/12. I guess the guitar "tech" in the store was having an off day. The lowest 3 strings are tuned an octave apart, and the the thinnest 3 are tuned to the same pitch. If you tune the lowest string of each pair the same way you would tune a six-string and then tune the second string as described above you are good to go.
The tuning knob is of course the part that you twist when you are tuning the guitar. There is a worm gear attached to the tuning knob which turns the pinion gear which winds the capstan. The Capstan has a hole in it for the string to go through. The string is attached to the capstan and winds around it as the string is tightened.

I'd like to learn heavy music, but have no idea how a band like Slipknot plays. Would anybody be able to map out a scale for a heavy dropped tuning 6 string guitar, in some sort of tablature style? I don't know if this makes sense, but if you could show me a diagram or some sort of map of where the scale is on the guitar, something like this 0-1-4-5-7-8-11-12 ?
Ok, so we know how to strum and play a few chords, maybe even a scale. Mobile users should use their web browser instead of a client like Alien Blue, or else it will look jumbled. Let's begin, a chord is a collection of notes played simultaneously in harmony. This means that when you strum a guitar and more than one string rings, that is a chord. Obviously, for a musician this is not enough. In this lesson, I am going to speak of major chords, and hopefully with that you will understand all c...
Using this method you can tune a 12 string guitar to any tuning you want. Summary A 12-string guitar needs to be tuned frequently. string is in tune, because the slack remaining in the tuning gear soon will cause the string to go flat. Instead, back the tuner off until the string sounds flat, then tune it back up to pitch, thus removing the slack. [It always helps to give the string a gentle tug before tuning it back up to pitch.] According to one musty old guitar

Tuning 12-String Guitars A 12-string guitar exerts a tremendous amount of tension on its neck, which is why Guild suggests using light-gauge strings. In standard 12-string tuning, the second string in each pair is tuned to standard pitch (E A D G B E) just like a six-string guitar and using the same methods described previously.
Some interesting statistics on why to de-tune your 12-string from standard tuning: If you look at what the tension would have been if this were a six-string guitar by looking only at the odd numbered strings (the first string of each pair) we can calculate the six string tension would have been 129.21 lbs.
Tune the third pair of strings. Both strings will be tuned to “G.” Tune the bottom of the two strings first. Tune this string to “G,” the same pitch as the “G” on a six-string guitar. Tune the top string to “G” but an octave above the lower string.
Stringing 12 String Guitars. At the right, you'll see a picture of a common 12 string guitar neck. The top string is numbered 12, then 11, etc. on down. You'll also see the top string 12 is thinner than the next one 11. Because the string is thinner, it is tuned higher. The same is true with the next 3 pairs of strings.
Here is a diagram of the strings on a 12-string guitar tuned a half-step down: We still tune the strings as if there are six pairs and the lower four pairs are tuned an octave apart. The only difference between this tuning and standard tuning is each string is a half-step lower. Extra Tip
